Port Said Massacre: Ultras of Egypt Unite

Photo Blog by Mosa’ab Elshamy

Egypt’s largest and most popular football teams, Ahly and Zamalek, have always been arch rivals. But following the death of over 70 soccer fans in the Port Said stadium massacre, supporters of both clubs put aside their rivalries to take to the streets. The fans - or Ultras, as they’re locally known- were protesting against the failure to keep the stadium secure and against the ongoing rule of the Military Council in Egypt, accusing the council headed by Tantawi of conspiring and of being responsible for the murder of their friends.
