Israel on Monday demolished a Palestinian home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Mukabber for building without a permit, local media reported.

The homeowner, Mohammed Shqeirat, told WAFA news agency that Israeli police forced his 25-member family from the home without giving them time to collect their belongings.

Shqeirat added that all of his applications to secure a permit over the past 15 years had been denied.

International rights groups have condemned Israel’s policy of home demolitions under the pretext of building without a permit.

Roughly 94 percent of Palestinian applications for building permits are rejected, according to the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

The group estimates that Israeli authorities have demolished about 27,000 Palestinian structures in the illegally occupied West Bank since 1967.
