Two suspected Al-Qaeda members were killed in a US drone missile strike on their vehicle in Hadramawt province of eastern Yemen on Tuesday, security sources said.

They told AFP that the drone fired the missile at a car on a main road in the desert, "killing two people who have not yet been identified."

"Initial reports indicate that two Al-Qaeda terrorists were killed in the raid," one source said.

The United States is the only country that has drones in the region and it has stepped up its strikes on what it claims are Al-Qaeda targets in Yemen and other countries like Pakistan and Somalia.

The drone attacks are deeply unpopular among residents, as they have led to the deaths of a large number of civilians.
