Prominent lawyer Salim Jreissati was appointed Lebanon's new labor minister on Friday, replacing Charbel Nahas.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that Cabinet sessions would resume on Monday following a crisis started by former Labor Minister Charbel Nahas' opposition to the labor law.

President Michel Sleiman and Mikati signed the decree appointing Jreissati during a meeting at Baabda Palace, following a recommendation by Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun.

Jreissati is a legal expert and has worked closely on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), advising the defense for the four Hezbollah members implicated in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

A university lecturer at the University of San Joseph in Beirut, Jreissati was an adviser to former President Emile Lahoud and helped draft the new Syrian constitution.

Nahas resigned on Tuesday following a long battle within the government over the terms of a proposed national wage rise.

Mikati said the government would resume its work next Monday following nearly a month without a Cabinet meeting.
